Do not cut Social Security!

There is enough waste and fraud in government, as well as duplication of services that the deficit could be reduced significantly if these issues were addressed. Do we really need both Homeland Security and the Dept. of Emergency Management. How much do services overlap in these two departments? Does the federal government really need to support the Arts at the current level when there is such a huge deficit and such widespread unemployment?. Let's look at these issues before targeting our most vulnerable citizens.

The elderly and persons with disabilities already struggle to survive on their monthly Social Security checks and are dealing with increased costs in medical care and rising prices of food. I am a 59 1/2 year old divorced woman who lost my job last July due to a business closure. I am currently uninsured and have pre-existing medical conditions. I will apply for Social Security at age 62 and pray that it, along with my pension, will sustain me the remainder of my life.

Why is this important?

Social Security is not the right place to address the deficit. Tell the President and your fellow members of Congress not to support any cuts in Social Security and not to change the way cost of living increases for retirees are calculated.
