Do not nominate Trump for 2026 Noble Peace Prize

These reasons should result in Trump not receiving the 2026 Noble Peace Prize:
  • The January 6 insurrection: Critics and the House Select Committee on January 6 accused Trump of being the "central cause" of the insurrection. During a speech prior to the attack, he urged supporters to "fight like hell" and march to the Capitol to pressure lawmakers not to certify the 2020 election results, which many perceived as an incitement to violence. Some individuals charged in relation to the attack explicitly stated they felt they were acting on his command.
  • Incitement and normalization of violence: A UCLA study found that Trump's use of violent rhetoric in speeches has increased over time and is at a higher level than other major party presidential candidates. Observers argue this rhetoric normalizes and encourages violence. For example, in 2024, Trump stated that if he was not re-elected, there would be a "bloodbath for the country".
  • Targeting of political opponents: Throughout his political career, Trump has used derogatory language against his opponents, often Democrats, portraying them as enemies. This has been cited as a factor in escalating tensions and contributing to a climate of political violence, with studies showing increases in threats and harassment against those he targets.
  • Contradiction of prize criteria: The Nobel Peace Prize is intended for individuals who have "done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations," which includes fostering democratic values and de-escalating conflict. Proponents of this view argue that using violent rhetoric against political opponents and inciting an attack on the U.S. Capitol are antithetical to these principles, and that such actions fundamentally disqualify a candidate
  • Divisive rhetoric and style: The prize is often associated with moral gravitas and quiet leadership, whereas Trump's public style is described as bombastic and divisive. His rhetoric, which has been criticized as demeaning and polarizing, is seen by many as fundamentally at odds with the values of cooperation and shared humanity.
  • Concerns over democracy and rule of law: Some critics point to Trump's domestic actions, including legally questionable deployments of the military on U.S. soil and efforts to challenge democratic norms, as a reason he is unsuitable for an award that honors efforts to fortify democracy.
  • Undermining international cooperation: A central tenet of the Nobel Peace Prize is promoting "fraternity among nations," something experts argue runs counter to Trump's "America First" policies. His administration withdrew from the Paris Climate Accord and the World Health Organization (WHO) and criticized institutions like the UN and NATO, which critics say weakened the global order that the prize celebrates.
  • Contradictory approach to peace: Critics argue that Trump's foreign policy record presents a contradictory picture. While he is credited with brokering some deals, such as the Abraham Accords and certain ceasefires, these efforts are often viewed alongside actions that deepened instability, like withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal and arms control treaties. The Nobel Committee typically favors sustained, multilateral efforts over quick, transactional wins.

Why is this important?

Donald Trump does not deserve such an important award as The Noble Peace Prize, as he one of the most unpeaceful people to ever be considered for it. Please do not give him this award!
