Do not change Social Security. It was not in any way responsible for the Great Recession. Since it has a separate funding source, it cannot help with the deficit.
Why is this important?
Do not alter any part of Social Security except perhaps means testing. Some people depend on it for their basic necessities. Lowering it will bump them down to the poverty level.
