Iowa Senator Joni Ernst has a lot to be worried about not just in a MAGA primary challenge, but especially in a potential Rob Sand Senate candidacy.
State Auditor Rob Sand is the strongest candidate to challenge Joni Ernst, another capitulator to the Trump agenda of culture wars, party elite wheeling-and-dealing, and Midwestern working class austerity. While Trump is still popular in the Midwest, Congressional Republicans are not.
Auditor Sand is ready to take on the status quo. He has done so now making sure Iowa's COVID-era state budget finances are in shape, taking on state government corruption in the GOP trifecta, fighting waste, fraud, and abuse in nursing homes, and backing up providers of care at veterans' homes.
Rob Sand can win in Iowa. In 2018, he flipped the Auditor's seat blue for the first time in a long time, winning by 4 points. In 2022, he was the lone Democrat to win reelection, outperforming the top of the midterm ticket drastically in a highly unfavorable election cycle.
If Sand runs, Democrats may finally start to realize the possibility of taking back the Senate in 2026.
