To: Senator Darren Soto, Congressional Candidate
Drop out, Darren
By now you’ve likely seen the story about Florida State Senator Darren Soto’s horrifying and sexually explicit song.
Written just four years before being elected to public office, the song depicts non-consensual sexual acts.
When confronted about these shameful lyrics, Darren Soto dismissed them as a “comic skit.”
Let’s make one thing very clear: there is nothing funny about sexual assault.
Now Darren Soto wants to run for Congress.
For someone who wants to represent the hardworking people of Central Florida in Congress, this lack judgment is more than troubling – it is disqualifying.
That's why we are calling for Darren Soto to drop out of this race. Will you join our call?
When elected officials like Darren Soto, John Kasich, or Todd Akin make light of non-consensual sex – or worse, turn it into comedic fodder – it discourages victims from reporting these crimes and seeking justice.
Darren Soto now claims that these disgusting lyrics were simply written as a “comic skit.” We are not laughing.
Nor were we laughing when he voted for a bill that would impose a filing fee on victims of domestic violence in order to escape from their abusers. Or when he co-sponsored legislation that would make it more difficult for victims of domestic violence to obtain a divorce. Or when he voted to eliminate the “best interest of the child” standard in child custody cases.
This is not the representation our daughters, our sister, our mothers, or our friends deserve. We can do better.
Join our call for Darren Soto to drop out of the race.
Thank you for supporting women everywhere.

Why is this important?
Florida women can’t afford irresponsible and inconsistent representation in Congress.
