Electric, not Diesel, Buses for Lake Tahoe Schools!

The Lake Tahoe Unified School District set a goal of replacing half of its dirty diesel bus fleet with clean, electric buses in the next two years. But now, the District is taking steps to buy four diesel buses, which would expose our kids and community to more lung-damaging pollution, while fueling climate change. Tell the District to ditch dirty diesel, and embrace clean electric!

Why is this important?

According to a report, "No Breathing in the Aisles," dirty diesel buses expose child passengers to 23-46 times the cancer risk level considered significant under federal law.

That's why a Lake Tahoe Unified School District sustainability committee recommended replacing half of the District's dirty diesel fleet with clean electric buses within the next three years. Hundreds of school districts across California are taking advantage of grant funding for free electric buses.

While the District has ordered one electric bus, it tried to sneak through a plan to order four new dirty diesel buses, which would delay replacing this part of the fleet with clean electric buses by twenty years. This is completely unacceptable, and the exact wrong direction for our kids, community, and climate.
