Enough is Enough! Pass Expanded Background Checks Now
The Senate must expand background checks and close the loopholes in our laws that allow criminals easy access to deadly firearms.
Why is this important?
Whether it’s mass shootings fueled by racism, rage against women, homophobia, extremist ideologies, or mental illness, I shudder to think about what it says about us as a nation if we don’t even attempt to make a good faith effort to end this carnage.
That is why yesterday morning, at around 11 a.m., I decided to stand on the Senate floor and talk about the need to prevent gun violence for as long as I could.
And I am proud to announce that after nearly 15 hours of holding the floor, we will have a vote to expand background checks for gun purchases.
This is an idea supported by more than 90 percent of Americans, including a majority of Republicans, Independents, gun owners and even NRA members.
