Expel Josh Hawley

Members of the U.S. Senate must expel Senator Josh Hawley.

Why is this important?

After President Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election, he and his supporters questioned the integrity of the election. After bringing concerns to courts of law where judges and justices--many of whom Trump appointed--confirmed the validity of the election, Donald Trump and his allies continued to spread misinformation, completely disregarding the United State’s tradition of a peaceful transfer of power, pioneered by John Adams centuries ago. This inappropriate behavior became more dangerous as January 6 approached and the president and his allies began to incite an insurrection against the authority of the United States’ electoral process. Donald Trump made statements including, “Basically, in effect, the ruling would be that you got to go to the streets and be as violent as Antifa” and “Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!” Rudy Guilliani suggested “trial by combat” as a method for Trump supporters to dispute the election. And Senator Josh Hawley joined in, tweeting several incitements such as “Somebody has to stand up. 74 million Americans are not going to be told their voices don’t matter” and “It’s time to STAND UP” If it wasn’t clear that Hawley was encouraging the riot that occurred at the United States Capitol on January 6th, Hawley made sure to make his message clear by saluting the crowd with a raised, closed fist, a well known symbol of resistance. Josh Hawley directly incited and supported a deadly insurrection against his fellow Congressmen and Congresswomen which is not only unpatriotic, but also treasonous. It is illegal.

18 U.S. Code § 2383 states, “Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.”

Josh Hawley has four years left of his term in the United States Senate. He must be removed now, though. If left in office, Hawley will continue to undermine the United States of America’s democracy. Hawley is a threat to what every patriot holds sacred. Josh Hawley must be held accountable for his actions now. In the past, support of rebellion or an act of treason has warranted expulsion, and it is the only appropriate measure here. Thus, the United States Senate must expel the junior Senator from Missouri and nothing less will be acceptable.

Each signature attached to this petition indicates a United States citizen demanding that their Senate expel Josh Hawley for his treasonous acts.
