Change current legislation to allow CA teachers who earned all their Social Security quarters to receive their entitled benefits. currently only a portion is available plus their STRS benefits earned after leaving the private sector. Altruism by giving back to CA students and infusing real world experiences into the classroom should not be penalized. We contributed fairly into the system and we should be able to receive benefits accrued before entering the teaching profession.
Why is this important?
Professionals were encouraged to enter into the teaching profession when, in particular, there was a shortage of math & science teachers. Now the thanks they get for helping the children and state of California is they cannot collect all the money they put into Social Security.
