Mayor Gray and Council of the District of Columbia: Fund housing necessary to end homelessness in the District of Columbia

Petition Background

We, the undersigned people and People For Fairness Coalition, demand that you fund affordable housing to address the housing in the District of Columbia. You should focus the $100 million dollar commitment to the following housing priorities:

Expand the Department of Human Services Permanent Supportive Housing Program to serve more people.

Target the Local Rent Supplement Program to provide Housing and Support Services to chronically homeless individuals.

Increase funding for the Housing Production Trust Fund to produce and preserve affordable housing.

Pilot a "Sweat Equity" Program for homeless individuals to provide job training and afforodable housing.

Additionally, it is critical that the $7 Million shortfall in the Department of Human Services FY'13 budget is accounted for and providing services to families and individuals experiencing homelessness.

Sincerely,

Why is this important?

Cronic Homelessness is a problem in the District of Columbia
