Recent estimates of the Nations homless population put it at over 100,00-of these there are an estimated 70,000 veterans. there is a need to defray the nominal cost of access to public/para transit systems so they can get to Cold Night Shelters. This can be done by means of grants from the Federal and State Departments of Transportation to counties nation wide based on their population of homeless.
Why is this important?
Many areas of the Nation provide Cold Night Shelters for the estimated 100,000 plus homless. Many homelesss are veterans (@70,00 plus). The number grows every day. Being homless they have no money to pay for fares on public transit/para-transit systems to get to the Cold Night Shelters.
