Give The Dumas Back! Right Urban Renewal Wrongs In Roanoke
We the undersigned citizens support the efforts of the Dumas Hotel Legacy, Inc. to purchase the historic Dumas Hotel on Henry Street. We also support the efforts by members of the Roanoke City council to help DHL, Inc. and the community to succeed with this project.
Why is this important?
This is a petition sponsored by The Dumas Hotel Legacy, Inc. (representing more than 400 citizens/donors/members as part of their efforts to purchase the historic Dumas Hotel). This petition is an opportunity for the larger Roanoke community to demonstrate their support for our efforts. This petition also underscores the critical importance of this sacred property, community ownership, and control of its future. This is a great opportunity for Roanoke to make restitution for its urban renewal policies that led to millions of dollars in property and resources being taken from the black community for generations. It a chance for real RECONCILIATION.
