Tell IN Gov. Mike Pence: Veto Unconstitutional Anti-Abortion Bill HB 1337!
Indiana's HB 1337, which was recently passed by the state legislature and will soon be signed into law by Governor Mike Pence, is the worst anti-abortion legislation in recent US history.
This unconstitutional and unnecessary bill attempts to impede women's constitutional right to safe abortions by requiring women to listen to the fetal heartbeat and view ultrasound images of the fetus, as well as undergo an 18-hour waiting period before they can receive abortion services.
None of this is medically necessary. It is simply an attempt to shame women and prevent them from being able to access their right to abortion services by forcing them to take time off work and spend money to travel long distances and stay overnight in one of only 4 out of 90+ counties which can currently provide abortion services in Indiana.
This bill also intends to make it even more difficult for abortion providers to be able to provide abortion services, by requiring clinics to meet the same regulatory standards as surgical centers - even though abortion is typically not a surgical procedure. The high costs of achieving these regulatory standards would make it virtually impossible for abortion clinics to remain open.
The bill would also make it illegal for abortion providers to provide abortion services to women who are electing to undergo an abortion due to congenital defects in the fetus that would significantly affect the quality of life. These abortion providers could face wrongful death charges, which is simply an attempt to scare abortion providers into no longer offering their services to women in need.
This bill not only hurts Indiana women -- many of whom will attempt to perform their own unsafe and potentially life-threatening abortions due to lack of access to safe abortions -- it would also hurt Indiana financially.
Signing HB 1337 into law will hurt Indiana's reputation with prominent tech companies who won't want to locate their businesses in a state where their female employees may not be able to access the healthcare they need.
And because most or all of this bill is likely unconstitutional, signing this bill into law would open the state of Indiana up to costly constitutional lawsuits, which the taxpayers will have to pay for.
The majority of people living in Indiana are not concerned with regulating women's bodies, so why is the Indiana state legislature?
We urge Governor Mike Pence to do his job and represent his constituents' interests by vetoing HB 1337.

Why is this important?
The Indiana state legislature just passed a bill that attempts to strip away women's constitutionally protected right to safe and legal choices when it comes to what they can do with their own bodies.
HB 1337 is the most dangerous anti-choice legislation this country has ever seen, and we must urge Governor Mike Pence to veto this unconstitutional bill.
HB 1337 could be signed into law any day now, but we cannot allow states to continue to perpetuate the war on women by chipping away at their rights.
Please join me in urging the state of Indiana to leave women's choices about what to do with their own bodies to WOMEN.
