Heather Heyer statue to replace Robert E. Lee in Emancipation Park

We, the undersigned, do hereby petition Gov. Terry McAuliffe, the General Assembly of VA, the Mayor, City Council and citizens of Charlottesville, VA to replace the Robert E. Lee statue in Emancipation Park with a statue of a real American hero, Heather Heyer.

Why is this important?

Heather Heyer, who – while standing up to Neo-Nazis, the KKK and other white supremacists, as they were terrorizing the inhabitants of your small American town – was killed when a man drove his car into a crowd of counter-protesters on Saturday, August 12, 2017. It is time to retire General Lee and the Confederacy to an history museum where they belong. In his place, right on top of the old pedestal, should go a new symbol of all that is right and good about the fair city of Charlottesville, VA and that could be a statue of this brave young woman holding a sign* a proper memorial dedicated to Heather’s life, and honoring her sudden death, becoming “a rallying cry for justice and equality and fairness and compassion.”
