Local Hawaii families are more likely to have elderly relatives living with them than people in any other state. Being able to growing old in your own home around your family is a distinct local value. The legislature should take up the challenge of the long term care commission and create a new social insurance program to help Ohana stay together!
Why is this important?
Local families are struggling harder and harder just to stay afloat. Figuring out how to keep our parents living with us is hard, but it is good for our family and good for society. Japan and South Korea do it, we can too.
