PETITION IN SUPPORT OF PERMANENT WALKABLE BEACH ACCESS FOR OCEAN GRANDE

Ocean Grande homeowners are joining together to support permanent, walkable beach access for our community.

Residents of the 198-unit Ocean Grande community respectfully ask the County Commissioners to approve the Major Modification to the Pirates Landing PUD, which would establish permanent public beach access.

Approval of this modification was delayed at the last County Commission meeting, and it is important that we act soon while the current parcel owners are still willing to donate the land necessary to make this access possible.

Our community has already experienced lost home sales and canceled contracts due to the lack of walkable beach access. While some have expressed concerns about potential impacts to the club—and we encourage continued support of the club—protecting the value and marketability of our homes must come first. Permanent public access ensures that Ocean Grande residents will not be left without beach access in the future.

Approving this modification will:

• Provide the County with two parcels of land at no cost
• Allow the County to pursue matching state and federal funding for beach renourishment
• Ensure permanent walkable beach access for Ocean Grande residents

Today, we can hear the ocean and smell the salt air — but we cannot walk to the beach.

We respectfully urge the County Commissioners to APPROVE the proposed PUD modification establishing permanent public beach access.

Why is this important?
