Help those in need of better housing opportunities

Dear California Representatives,
Working two jobs and still unable to pay the rent. This is the plight thousands of hard working citizens in California are currently facing. As rent prices go through the roof, students, single-parent families and even middle-income families are finding it more and more difficult to cover rent and housing costs.
Although low-income levels have already been established to aide in providing housing opportunities, research has shown that those levels are inadequate and need to be expanded.
Over 45% of Californians are renters and far too many are paying as much as 50% of their income in rent. According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, the average Californian would have to be making a minimum of $20.80 an hour to afford a one-bedroom apartment at Fair Market Value.
At a time when thousands of hard-working families find themselves in crisis because of spiraling rents, we urge you, our leaders, to consider raising the low-income housing salary limits in California so more individuals and families can be eligible to receive affordable housing opportunities.
The signatures attached to this letter express the support for our issue. We organized this letter petition through the course we are currently enrolled in, Race and Ethnic Relations, taught by Professor Paul Lopez, at California State University, Chico. We are urging you to hear our concerns.
