Home Buyer Privacy Rights
A Buyer's name can hold a link to a person's race, religion, familial status, national origin, and martial status. What else can it reveal?
We are proposing a bill to prohibit a residential contract of sale for a single-family residential real property from containing the name of the buyer.
The legislation targets implicit bias, defined as a tendency or inclination - which, ultimately, leads to a preference of one person over another that could violate their rights. The agenda is to protect our clients from both direct and unconscious bias in the name of fairness.

Why is this important?
To protect home buyers from both direct and unconscious bias in the name of fairness. In the housing context, implicit bias can lead to steering. It can also show up in perceptions of neighborhoods, housing stock, and property value, leading to appraisal bias.
