House Democrats, led by legendary Civil Rights leader, Rep. John Lewis, just ended their House floor sit-in in support of gun legislation. The Orlando tragedy sparked movement on gun legislation but nothing has passed. In 2012, the Democrats included an assault weapons ban into the DNC platform—we ask that it be reaffirmed in the 2016 platform. Friday, the draft of the DNC platform will be released—let's make it boldly progressive by adding an assault weapons ban to the platform language.
Why is this important?
Inspired by the Democrats sitting in at the House, it's time to make an assault weapons ban part of the DNC party platform. We have an opportunity to make a truly bold and progressive platform, let's take the step and be brave. The draft platform will be released on Friday.
