Hungry kids should be fed, not mocked
Subject: Shame on You for Attacking Hungry Children
Dear Representative McCormick,
Shame on you. Your recent comments suggesting that hungry children are “sponging off the government” are not just cruel, they are morally reprehensible. It is astonishing—and frankly, disgusting—that an elected official would use their platform to mock and vilify the most vulnerable members of society: children who do not know where their next meal is coming from.
What kind of person begrudges a hungry child a meal? What kind of leader sees poverty and responds with scorn instead of action? Your words reveal not just a lack of basic human empathy, but an appalling ignorance of your own state’s reliance on federal aid.
If anyone is “sponging off the government,” it is Georgia itself. Georgia takes in far more federal dollars than it contributes, benefiting from federal funding for infrastructure, healthcare, and agriculture, among other things. Without the government assistance you so readily mock, Georgia’s economy would crumble. So tell me, Congressman—should Georgia stop “sponging” too? Should our farmers go without subsidies? Should our rural hospitals shut down? Should our roads, bridges, and schools go without federal dollars? Or does your disdain for government assistance only apply when it comes to feeding hungry children?
Your comments are beyond offensive—they are a disgrace to your office. They betray a fundamental misunderstanding of public service and a shocking willingness to punch down on those least able to fight back. You owe the people of Georgia an apology, and more importantly, you owe them better representation.
Instead of demonizing children for needing help, I suggest you spend some time talking to the families in your district who struggle to put food on the table. Listen to the single parents working two jobs just to survive. Listen to the teachers who see hungry kids in their classrooms every day. Listen to the people who elected you, rather than using them as a punchline.
Until then, your words will remain an ugly stain on your record, a testament to your failure as a leader and as a human being.
Do better.
Darrell James
Why is this important?
If the government has money to spend buying Greenland, they can certainly feed the hungry children of this country. If the government can build a Riviera on the Gaza strip, they must feed the hungry children here in the USA.
