Illinois Senators Should Co-Sponsor Strengthening Social Security Act of 2013

Illinois' senior citizens know that Social Security has a huge surplus and can support paying the current benefits for over 20 years, in contrast to Sen. Durbin's uninformed comments about needs to cut back paying the benefits that the senior citizens have prepaid.

We call upon Sen. Durbin to get educated in the realities of Social Security and Medicare and in the ways in which they can be further strengthened (by eliminating the cap on taxable earnings) and with this new-found understanding of reality cosponsor the strengthening Social Security act of 2013 proposed by Sen. Tom Harkin.

This will be truly representing the people as opposed to determining the least acceptable compromise in the face of intransigent, anti-government forces

Why is this important?

I was truly amazed at the uninformed comments by Sen. Durbin when discussing the financial state of Social Security. I had assumed he actually knew the bare facts and would act responsibly to ensure that the agreement made by the United States government to the workers in the United States would be honored by federal lawmakers.

I'm grateful that I have a chance to express my feelings to this "Representative" who, in his arrogance, is overlaying his desires and wishes over his constituents and expecting them to suffer in silence.

If enough of us speak up, hopefully a significant number of our "representatives" will listen and actually do their job
