The action of sending a letter to the leaders of Iran by 47 members of Congress is a clear violation of both the constitution and the Logan Act. The letter seeks to both "influence the measures" and "defeat the measures" of the negotiations President Obama is engaged in.
A minority of Congress usurped the full power of the United States and used it in the domain with the authority of the President or even the people to promote their agenda and for this we demand all 47 members of Congress participation in the signing of this letter be impeached and removed from office.
Why is this important?
The President of the United States has the sole authority to negotiate agreements and treaties with foreign nations.
In UNITED STATES v. CURTISS-WRIGHT EXPORT CORPORATION, 299 U.S. 304 (1936), Justice Sutherland, writing for the Court, observed, "[T]he President alone has the power to speak or listen as a representative of the nation. He makes treaties with the advice and consent of the Senate; but he alone negotiates. Into the field of negotiation the Senate cannot intrude; and Congress itself is powerless to invade it.
If the Monica Lewinsky scandal falls under the umbrella of "high crimes and misdemeanors" the actions of these 47 members of Congress certainly do.
