Improve trans mental health by standardizing medicaid coverage of gender-affirming care

Trans and nonbinary people lack adequate access to medically-necessary treatments and care, and have disproportionately negative mental health outcomes. The Department of Health and Human Services needs to protect the health of all Americans by ensuring the right of transgender and nonbinary citizens to adequate health care, and standardizing gender-affirming care in all Medicaid plans across states. This would not only improve the health outcomes for trans and nonbinary populations, but the reduction in cost to treat associated negative outcomes would allow for lower premiums for all Americans.

Why is this important?

It is your duty as an American to hold your government accountable to its promises to protect its citizens and their care. Right now, trans people face an alarmingly high suicide rate: 41% of trans individuals have attempted suicide compared with 4.6% of the general public. This is a life and death issue, and guaranteeing adequate healthcare is an essential step to address it. Get on board!
