In Support Of Pump House Music Works
Please help Pump House Music Works gain approval to stay open in the winter months.
Why is this important?
Dear Friends,
The Pump House has applied for an extension of the outdoor venue until the end of December. This license will be heard at the next Town Council meeting on October 26, 2020. There are a number of “outdoor” businesses which will automatically be approved. Unfortunately, the Pump House along with a few other businesses have had some complaints from neighbors. We have made numerous efforts to respond to complaints but there is no doubt that these neighbors stand in opposition to the Pump House.
As you may also know, we have been attempting to find ways to stay open beyond December. In order to stay in business, we need tents, heaters and lights and we have several pending grant requests. Above all It is important for us to deliver a positive message to convince the Town Council to support the Pump House if we are successful.
At the moment, there appears to be some doubt about businesses continuing in the winter months for safety reasons coming from Town officials. It has been our experience that the musicians and the patrons of the Pump House have been overwhelmingly positive. To date there have been no COVID issues and we passed a COVID investigation with “ flying colors”. We fear nonetheless that we are up against a prejudice for continuation of the Venue.
In order for us to influence the Town, we need a number of positive voices to demonstrate the importance of live music, particularly in this depressing time. In the four months we have enjoyed the outdoor music venue, we have hosted more than 70 live music performances. Our audiences, many of whom were venturing out for the first time, have been thrilled at the opportunity to listen to live music on the green
Bottom line, we need your help. We are asking our friends and the people who know the Pump House best to sign a petition, write a note to the Council, and do anything you can to show up for us by spreading the word. The Town Council has a duty to protect all citizens and businesses of the Town. If restaurants are allowed to open with a tent, there is no reason to deny the Pump House. In fact, we feel that we are an important and unique benefit to the community and serve as a lifeline to musicians who have no other place to perform. Please reach out if you have any questions about how to attend the Town Council meeting.
Thank you, Pump House Staff
