Independent Voters are Tax Payers, too

Currently, people registered as Independent voters are not allowed to vote in primaries, which silences us in some of the most crucial decisions in the United States.

Allow all voters, including Independent voters, to cast our votes in all elections, and lift the prohibitively long wait times to register and to switch one's party.

Why is this important?

In the 2016 Presidential Election, my partner and I went to cast our vote for the party which we intended to vote for that year. We learned that 1. only people registered as Democrat or Republican were allowed to cast a vote in the NYS primaries, and 2. we would have had to switch our 193 DAYS before the election, which we didn't find out until well past time!

New York State has THE most prohibitive party switching measures in the US, and it silences nearly 30% of voters in New York! This is not how a democracy is run.
