Investigate AI corporations NOW — protect humanity from runaway AI tech!

We urge you to investigate and hold hearings on AI safety. AI tech is extraordinarily powerful and dangerous. Recent incidents involving the biggest AI companies' tech used for hacking - such as the OpenAI-Hugging Face hack - and potential biological weapons development research by foreign governments show just how serious and threatening runaway AI tech is right now.

Why is this important?

OpenAI's artificial intelligence technology recently hacked into a major company called Hugging Face all on its own. Anthropic just reported that governments used Claude to surveil populations and conduct research for a biological weapons program.1,2

Big AI corporations are unleashing their dangerous, extraordinarily powerful tech on society without guardrails. CEOs will get even richer while the rest of us face existential threats to humanity.

Senator Bernie Sanders said, "Nearly every day, there is a frightening new story about how Big Tech companies are losing control of the technology they are developing, with potentially cataclysmic results."3 Congress must take immediate steps to investigate companies like OpenAI and Anthropic.

There's bipartisan support for reining in unregulated, ultra-powerful AI, but Congress needs to move fast.

States and other actors using AI to produce biological weapons is a grave threat. One expert said Anthropic's findings were "chilling examples of state-sponsored biological weapons developers tapping into the rapidly advancing capabilities" of top AI models.4

Sen. Sanders and Rep. Greg Casar introduced legislation to pause AI development, regulate the industry, and ban the creation of AI "superintelligence." It's a critical step to prevent AI-fueled crises, and 68% of voters support the legislation.5,6

Republicans on a disaster management Senate subcommittee announced a probe into OpenAI's hacking incident.7

Our lawmakers must do more to create real checks on the threats of AI.
