Investigate Conscience and Religious Freedom Division

Victory! The creator of this petition declared the campaign a success. You can still sign the petition to show support.

We believe that the new OCR Conscience and Religious Freedom Division of the Human Human Services department will open the door to discrimination of Women, LGBT people or just about any citizen that fits a narrow interpretation of Religious liberty by the Service provider.

The excuse for this office is that Health Care providers need protection because they are being forced to perform services that are against their religious beliefs such as providing gender conforming surgery to transgender people or abortions to women.

However there is no practical evidence for that both of the services mentioned require specialized care and those individuals seeking that will go to care facilities designated for and with a track record of caring for these individuals.
"Would anyone let an intern perform brain Surgery on Them"

The fear is that This organization which has a very broad mandate could allow Doctors and Health Care providers including emergency room personal or ambulance drivers to refuse to provide emergency service to patients they morally object to.

Worse case scenario the transgender person having an heat attack or the woman having complications from a recent abortion.
It was even suggested that refusing to treat someone with HIV would be protected thus threatening their lives.

The policy could even be used to discriminate against immigrants, children of interracial or gay marriages.

We ask congress to investigate the intentions of this agency which has a broad mandate and no Mission Statement.

Further we ask congress to obtain assurances that this policy would not apply to life or death emergencies.

Further we ask Congress that any funding for HHS specifically exclude OCR until such assurances are obtained.

Why is this important?

I am an American Citizen and business owner I think it is wrong to use an organization that is mandated to protect an individuals rights to health care to purposely limit that care because of the care providers personal belief.

A broad interpretation of this policy could potentially affect any American .
