Jerry Brown, Stop hammering the nail into the coffin
Stop California from Double Dipping and forcing more people into the poverty level. In CA, if someone on unemployment receives an over payment from EDD, They 1)have to repay the amount 2) pay 30% penalty 3) Have a disqualification period of up to 4 months the next time they apply. This is too excessive, when unemployment is your only source of income after a job loss. All they should do is collect the over payment, not keep an entire family from eating because they now have no income. State dependency actually costs our state MORE and with zero income, you now qualify. Simple Math.
Why is this important?
Excessive penalties, on Unemployment Ins. My husband has been laid off 4 times in 4 years, due to an over payment, We have not received 1 unemployment check since applying on Dec 30, 2012 and will not for another 3 weeks. Our only income is my disability. We are a family of 4. This literally put from the category of catching up to the world of poverty. Unemployment is money we put into the system.
