Keep Our Market and Precinct Open
We need the stable presence of both the Farmer's Market and the Police Precinct to keep our neighborhood secure and thriving. Whatever the causes of its closing, we here in the South Hull District ask that ASU continue the building's lease until April 2015 as guaranteed in the original contract. We would also ask that the Department of Agriculture and the Mayor become involved in our effort to keep the market open.
Why is this important?
We here in the South Hull District and the surrounding neighborhoods need a source of fresh produce, a gathering place for meetings, and quick MPD response when we call. The neighborhoods that surround us and that are also serviced by the Market have a greater problem with crime and their folks often eat unhealthily because of poverty, ignorance, and a shortage of fresh food. The Market is also an anchor in a sea of changing retail and rental properties.
