Keep the Affordable Housing funding in the Infrastructure Bill
The steep increase in the amount of rents and purchase prices of homes is making it impossible for many of our fellow citizens to find housing. These include the working people who serve us all in restaurants, grocery stores, businesses, healthcare, and other essential businesses. Also, the artists who create the artwork that keeps our local NM tourist industry vibrant find it more and more difficult to find affordable housing.
Disabled people are finding it more and more difficult, if not impossible, to find adequate affordable housing and many face homelessness if adequate affordable housing is not created. Even able-bodied people are finding it very difficult to find rentals. Available homes rent within days for rents much too high for most disabled people. This federal funding for Affordable Housing could finance the construction of this much-needed affordable housing.
I am a 72-year-old disabled woman and will need to find an affordable home when the house I have been living in for 20 years is put on the market next year. I am chemically sensitive and need a home with special requirements for my disability. They have always been difficult to find, but with our affordable housing crisis, it is nearly impossible. I know some disabled individuals who are living in their cars because they can't find affordable housing.
This is a crisis throughout our country. So, please sign this petition and send it to as many people as possible who might be interested in signing it. Thank you.

Why is this important?
I am disabled and many of the other disabled people I know are facing homelessness or are homeless living in their cars. The high price of renting and buying are making it impossible for them to find a home.
