KING Charter School
Khushi, Immersion, and Natural Garden
It is no coincidence that our school’s name is KING. As a school that has a strong focus on love and compassion, we find Martin Luther King Jr. a powerful messenger of this important lesson. As a person who wanted love and peace for all, we are inspired by his actions and way of achieving goals. KING also breaks down to further describe our school.
“K” is for Khushi, the Hindi word for happy. While we all want what is best for our children and often times we find this getting high test scores, ultimately, we want happy children. We also feel that using a word from one of the most populated countries in the world reflects our commitment to diversity. Having understanding of other cultures helps eliminate ignorance’s and fears creating more peace, thus more “khushi” kids!
“I” for immersion reflects our program that is taught in Spanish, English and Mandarin. If one really wants to create peace, then one needs to communicate. Being able to speak these three languages fluently opens the door to speak to over 3 billion people on our planet! Furthermore, communication and understanding one’s language helps bridge the differences between cultures thus, helping to create common ground and peace.
“N” and “G” Natrual Garden refers to our goal to not only provide children with as much nutritious food as research indicates that children who do have balanced diet filled with fruits and vegetables tend to be healthier and happier, but it is also our mission to teach children the importance of being responsible citizens who minimize their carbon footprint. Our little growing minds will bloom into responsible members of our society and planet!

Why is this important?
