Let Texas Cosmetologists Return to Work - With Modifications
Starting May 1st, 2020 let Texas Cosmetologists gradually return to work with extra precautions. Cosmetologists are required by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to follow strict rules to prevent the spread of viruses and bacteria. Extra precautions to make this transition back to working as safe as possible can be taken. Examples may include:
1) both clients and stylists wearing masks
2) maximum of 10 people in a salon at once (This means 5 cosmetologists + their clients)
3) extra sanitization
4) minimum of 6 feet maintained between stylist working stations
5) every client and cosmetologist must acknowledge that he/she has not experienced any symptoms of coronavirus over the course of the last 14 days

Why is this important?
Our industry is essential. Almost every service done in a salon is a time-sensitive service. Some of these things are not safe to go without, extension adjustments being one big example. Grown out extensions can result in traction alopecia, and most are not easy to safely remove at home. We are trained to prevent the spread of viruses, and we are happy to take extra safety measures.
Additionally, if we are unable to see clients, we have no way to maintain a stable income. We cannot pay our bills, support our families, or serve our community. The longer we are unable to work, the more salons (small businesses) will have to close and never reopen. Being closed indefinitely is extremely stressful for cosmetologists and salon owners, and we need to go back as soon as possible.
