Let us vote on the MRC/Fiberight plan

Listen to the voters and let us vote! Camden, Rockport, and Hope residents voted strongly against the divided Midcoast Solid Waste board recommendation of leaving the nonprofit coalition of 187 towns to which we currently belong. We believe in the Municipal Review Committee's vision and plan for a more sustainable and less costly waste disposal plan and we want a chance to vote on their proposal of sending our waste to Fiberight, a company that uses European technology (mechanical biological treatment) to recycle and recover more of the material left in our waste stream.

Why is this important?

I am starting this petition because elected officials in Camden are failing to listen to the voice of voters who spoke loudly at town meetings against their choice of sending our waste to an incinerator in Portland for the next 20 years. We were given an extension by the MRC until August 31st to make this decision and still be entitled to rebates down the road. The MRC has served us well for the past 25 years and our community deserves a chance to vote on staying with the group.
