Please change the rules regarding Medicaid funding for disability services such that once a family comes off a waiting list and receives services for their loved one, those services are entirely portable and follow the recipient.
Why is this important?
Services for the disabled, especially children, are funded by Medicaid, and although federal funds are involved, programs are state-by-state. The result is that when a family of a disabled person receiving services is required to move to a different state for their work, they must choose between having a job or losing their child, as most families cannot survive without the services they receive and they'd have to start over in the new state, getting to the back of the line on waiting lists all over again and perhaps not receiving comparable services. These rules must change, to enable families in our increasingly mobile society to meet the needs of their families without leaving a child behind in another state.
