Make Vaccines Mandatory to Attend Colorado Schools

Make vaccines mandatory to attend Colorado schools.

Why is this important?

We are petitioning the Colorado state government to require all Colorado school children, except for those with specific medical conditions, to be fully vaccinated. We also want all Colorado schools to inform parents of the current percentage vaccinated rate of all enrolled students. This would eliminate "Personal Belief Exemptions," which are used to opt out of vaccines for non-medical reasons.

"As of January 30, 2015 102 people in 14 states were reported to have measles, and most of these cases are tied to the outbreak that began at Disneyland in December. Public health officials are citing an increase in non-medical exemptions to vaccination as a key factor in these outbreaks."

If this trend continues, the immunity of the entire population is threatened. Life threatening diseases will spread further, and will also affect people who have been vaccinated; those with weakened immune systems, those who are very young, those who are elderly, and the like.

We hold a responsibility to increase immunization rates to protect our communities. This petition looks to address falling vaccination rates by requiring all children attending school to be vaccinated in Colorado, unless they have a medical condition that precludes it.
