Marion County MS Dress Code change- No Uniforms!
Uniforms, while started with good intentions, have been restricted to a level that creates multiple problems for parents and students alike. Uniforms have caused:
- Decrease in freedom of expression
- Fear of being seen with stains/ messes on clothing (this is especially true for middle school girls)
- Increase in cost of clothing children for school, especially in families with multiple children
- Difficulty in finding fitting, suitable clothing that align with the dress code
- Discomfort throughout the school day related to the fabrics chosen for uniform pieces
- Difficulty in finding sizes appropriate for those who are not “typical” school age size (plus sizes, tall or petite)
We request that the school take away the requirements for a uniform policy and change the dress code to include items that can be found without difficulty for any size, can be used to express individuality, and will still fit into a system that promotes modesty and integrity.

Why is this important?
Our children should be comfortable in an environment that they spend the majority of their time in. 6+ hours daily in clothing that is ill-fitting, uncomfortable, or that causes a student to feel stifled or anxious is not conducive to learning.
