Mayor Pavia: Help save a life

Keep our residents safe in the Cove area by changing the pedestrian signage to a more visible brighter color as well as put a SLOW/STOP sign in the middle of the crosswalk similar to what you see elsewhere in town.

Why is this important?

By adding a more prominent and noticeable pedestrian walk sign at the intersection of Cove Road and Euclid Street.

Current signage is in dull yellow and red writing. A brighter neon yellow/green sign as seen elsewhere in the city will make it more visible to drivers. I also propose putting a sign in the middle of the crosswalk for those who do not look to the sides of the road and simply always staring straight.

We have a problem. Drivers do not stop at the crosswalk where the current sign is placed. It is also hidden by large vehicles parked along the road prior to the crosswalk. When coming up from the beach, you do not notice the sign until the very last minute at the top.

At times, vehicles are traveling up the hill at over 50-75 mph as well as heading down to the beach at the same rate.

I've witnessed a mother with a baby stroller almost lose their lives in the crosswalk. I walk my dog down to the beach each day and no day is better than another.

It's a major issue and I believe a change is due. Why continue to put our citizens lives at risk? Let's get that sign changed before it's too late! I propose that or even a stop sign might work! People should not have to walk in fear of a specific intersection, let us make it a safe traveling point.
