Please join us in petitioning our Oakland City Councilmembers to provide basic services to help make our neighborhood safe
Why is this important?
Inconsistent enforcement of parking and street sweeping, and a lack of regular police presence in the Melrose/Fairfax District, have contributed to double parking and traffic congestion, late-night street parties, drug dealing, solicitation and sideshows — leaving our neighborhood streets unsafe and impacting local businesses and residents. With this petition, we request that our city council members ensure the services and improvements listed below are provided consistently to the area and that their impact on increasing neighborhood safety be monitored and evaluated at least three times over the next six months. We request:
1. Consistent enforcement of current parking laws
2. Regular police officer foot or bike patrols, especially between 4 and 10 p.m.
3. Regular street sweeping and signage indicating what days street sweeping takes place
4. Installation of missing parking signs on Foothill Avenue between Vicksburg and Fairfax Avenues
5. A follow-up meeting with representatives from the Oakland Police Department, the Public Works Department, and Melrose High Hopes neighbors to ensure a plan of action is quickly developed, implemented and monitored.
