MICHIGAN'S ELECTED STATE OFFICIALS: TAKE HEART, AND SAVE MICHIGAN'S ECONOMY
This petition, addressed to Governor Snyder and to the members of our Michigan Legislature, seeks to increase the odds that our children, grandchildren and neighbors will be able to stay in our beautiful state. It reads:
"Our experience has now proved that lower taxes won't save Michigan's economy. If we are to reverse the decline of our state’s economy, we must offer better public schools, better means of transporting people and goods, and better public services, generally. This will require large state investments, paid for with increased state revenues.
We need to attract new businesses, but, they won't come to Michigan if we don't offer good public schools for their employees' children. Better and affordable schools will reduce the number of employees who are trained by business and, subsequently, leave our state. Better schools will, also, reduce the number of already-accomplished prospective employees who have children and who without better schools for their children simply won’t move to Michigan.
We need to attract new businesses, but, they won't come if we don’t offer good roads and good rail roads for transporting raw materials to their shops and factories and for delivering their products to their customers.
We need to attract new businesses, but, they won't come if we don’t offer safe and reliable public services, such as buried electric power lines and clean water.
We must accumulate more state revenue to pay for better public schools, to pay for better roads and rail roads, and to pay for better public services.
Increasing our state's revenues by increasing our sales tax would be self-defeating. It would further damage our poor and unemployed, increasing the amount of state money needed for their support.
There is a way, perhaps the only way, to accumulate the required additional revenues. Take heart, amend our state constitution and, then, enact a graduated income tax.
If you have the courage to reverse the decline of Michigan’s economy, we will all remember, and we will all stand with you.”

Why is this important?
Our kids and neighbors won't be able to remain in Michigan unless Governor Snyder and our state legislature take the lead in reversing the decline of our economy.
