No Budget, No Pay for Pennsylvania Lawmakers

I support Sen. Rob Teplitz's bill that will suspend the pay of legislators, the governor, lieutenant governor and cabinet members until a state budget is in place. It's time to stop playing political games and pass a budget that fully funds our schools, protects taxpayers and stands up for working families in Pennsylvania.

Why is this important?

Sen. Rob Teplitz (D, Dauphin County) has introduced legislation that will suspend the pay of legislators, the governor, lieutenant governor and cabinet members until a state budget is in place. It's time to stop playing political games and pass a budget that fully funds our schools, protects taxpayers and stands up for working families in Pennsylvania.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

"Sen. Rob Teplitz, D-Dauphin, who is the sponsor of a bill that would suspend compensation for lawmakers during a budget impasse, is not accepting his salary and said he is borrowing funds from his bank in the meantime.

“'I didn’t want to be a hypocrite,' he said, referring to his bill. 'And I wanted to stand in solidarity with social service agencies, schools and others who are being hurt.'

"Mr. Teplitz’s bill would suspend compensation for the governor, lieutenant governor, cabinet officers and the General Assembly if a budget bill is not passed by June 30. His bill, which he also sponsored last session, hasn’t moved from the state government committee since it was introduced."
