I got a default for not appearing in a court hearing in a civil case in New York County, a few days after Hurricane Sandy, but I live in Zone B, and had to evacuate when the adjacent area started to have a surge. Mail had been disrupted, and I did not receive the Notice to Appear from the opposing party.
Why is this important?
My petition is to request help from lawyers and law associations to help me fight a default that I got from the civil court in New York County for failing to show up on a court date, a few days after Hurricane Sandy. But I live in Zone B, and my place got flooded.
