No Taxpayer Funds for CECOT—the Salvadoran Megaprison

The Trump administration made a $6 million deal with a megaprison in El Salvador, Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo, or CECOT. CECOT has been accused of serious human rights violations, and very little is known about this maximum-security foreign facility.
Even more concerning, Trump is disappearing people to the megaprison. Last month, he sent hundreds of migrants to the foreign prison, the majority of whom had no criminal record. In the chaos of Trump’s cruel and haphazard mass deportation efforts, an innocent father of two was wrongfully deported to CECOT. The Trump administration is doing nothing to secure his return.
This is terrifying. Our taxpayer dollars should not be spent funding human rights abuses, period. Add your name to demand Congress immediately STOP funding for CECOT and demand an independent investigation into the megaprison.
Why is this important?
CECOT is a maximum security prison with very little transparency into its practices and standards. People held there are not allowed visitors. There is no rehabilitation. More than 100,000 people are packed into the overcrowded prison, with no plans to ever be released.
The human rights organization Cristosal has already sounded the alarm of torture, abuse, and neglect happening at CECOT. And this is just the beginning.
Trump has said he wants to send “homegrown” citizens to El Salvador, urging President Nayib Armando Bukele Ortez to build more facilities.
This is a disturbing and flagrant violation of human rights. We have to intervene NOW and make it clear we will not allow people to be disappeared, abused, and tortured. Demand Congress BLOCK any additional funding to CECOT NOW and investigate claims of human rights violations immediately.
