Objections to Height and Sea Wall Special Permits, Beauport LLC.

I oppose the special permit request from Beauport LLC. as follows:

The height is excessive and does not fit in with the character of the neighborhood or the skyline and views of and within the City of Gloucester and should be limited to the guidelines in the MI district.

The proposed sea wall is not environmentally the best choice in this precious beach location, especially since it's been confirmed that while sea walls do protect the structure behind it, it will cause Pavilion Beach to erode and eventually be lost. Pavilion Beach is a favorite beach for locals as well as tourists who come to visit. The proposed wall will also be detrimental to the ecosystem here which as been documented as a nursery for scallops before they grow large enough to leave the eelgrass. The wall as currently planned will protect the structure but not our precious environment.

Why is this important?

The City of Gloucester, Massachusetts is facing a special permit request on March 12, 2013 from Beauport LLC to build a hotel on Commercial Street (down The Fort) which is a Marine Industrial Park on Gloucester's Harbor.

This the purpose of this petition is to ask the developer to modify their requests as it pertains to the size of the hotel and the type of sea wall proposed.
