Child protective workers must be qualified and certified by their state governing board of social work to work with and around families and children. Unqualified workers should never have the option to take children from their families or provide intervention to at -risk families.
Why is this important?
It has come to my attention that many child protection agencies across the country are making major decisions about families and have only a four year degree which does not have to be in social work, psychology or child development or be state certified. Many supervisors and even directors of these said agencies are not state certified and can hold degrees in other unrelated disciplines and yet can make life or death decisions about our nation's abused children and their families. Lawmakers should ensure that state agencies employ and ensure their personnel who work with such sensitive issues are qualified by more than attending a four year program in some subject to take children from their parents or provide intervention.
