Open OHIO Independent Licensed Massage Therapists
Reopen Small, independent massage therapy practices that employ less than 3 therapists, provided patients are spaced out to disallow them coming into contact one another, and allow extra time for cleaning the treatment area. Practitioners should wear gloves and a mask during treatment sessions and should limit themselves to 3 patients a day to limit contact with the public and thus continuting the flattening of the curve.
Why is this important?
Massage Therapists are an important piece of the health and wellness care of many people. Independent therapists are being hit incredibly hard right now, especially due to the fact that most of us rely solely upon our practices as our source of income. We are licensed by the State Medical Board and therefore should be treated like medical practitioners, and not like we are just a luxury to “relax” people. If chiropractors can implement extra sanitation precautions, so can we. Most of us already space out our clients to give ourselves ample time to sanitize the treatment area, ask unwell patients to reschedule, and we practice hospital standards of hand washing, and use of PPE when necessary. It would not be hard to use PPE with EVERY patient. Also, given the limited number of people we deal with already in a normal day(generally no more than 4 patients) we provide little to no risk of spreading COVID-19 to our patients or our colleagues compared to going to a fast food restaurant or a grocery store, where their potential of contact is far greater simply due to the nature of the business. PLEASE, please let Independent Massage Therapists re-open with extra precautions. Thank you
