To: Wisconsin Government Accountability Board and Governor Tony Evers
Open the DMV, or no voter ID!
We demand that the DMV be open 7 days per week, for extended hours, before November 4. Otherwise, Governor Walker must halt implementation of the new voter identification laws.
Why is this important?
Lack of a voter ID is more likely for those who are poor, disenfranchised, marginalized, without the flexibility to leave their jobs to accommodate limited DMV hours, people of color-- all people who traditionally vote for Democratic candidates. When I participated in canvassing recently, I was concerned that many in our rural area weren't even aware of new voter ID requirements. Every citizen deserves the same vote, without incurring extra costs or hardships, without eligibility tests that favor one party over another.
