It's time that the United States join the rest of the world in valuing women in the workforce by providing 100% paid maternity leave. Unpaid maternity leave has critically devalued women and has held the U.S. back from progress and innovation.
Why is this important?
When I became pregnant with my second child, I was told that I wouldn't "want to work full-time" and therefore was slowly phased out of my job completely rather than paid what I needed to cover increased childcare costs. I know I am not the only woman to face this type of job loss due to pregnancy. Women should no longer be penalized for ensuring the future of humanity.
