Passing House Bill 588 Alina's Law

Recently PA House Bill 588 (also known as Alina's Law) was introduced that would give judges discretion as to whether or not a PFA defendant should wear an electronic monitoring device if the defendant poses a threat of violating the order. This bill would give us a starting point in combating domestic violence in Pennsylvania.

Why is this important?

As part of the Women's March, American Association of University Women, Move On, and an advocate of the "Me-too movement", I have been working for many years to make college campuses and other school environments safe from domestic abuse and violence by enforcing Title IX requirements at educational institutions across the state. However, with the weakening of Title IX through Betsy DeVos' new Ed Plan our students will be even more vulnerable to predators off campus. We need this bill to make sure a PFA means something no matter where you live or who you are.
