Congress has "borrowed" over 4 trillion dollars from the Social Security trust fund; money Americans paid in during their working years with the assurance it would be there when they needed it. Now Republicans are planning cuts to Social Security benefits because they say there is not enough money. We didn't offer to lend them this money, we certainly haven't collected any interest on it, and we want it back.
Why is this important?
My husband and I receive Social Security benefits and we paid into the Social Security program each week of our working lives. For years congress has been borrowing this money to fund other projects. Debtors should pay what they owe. We do.
