Please make it an immediate priority to appoint a special envoy to Israel and the Palestinian people to bring about a a 2-state solution and a peace that respects the rights of both sides to safety and self-determination, by the end of 2014. Please strongly consider elevating women as negotiators, who have a strong record in reconciliation in other conflict areas.
Why is this important?
The recent heartbreaking Israel/Gaza conflict reminds us of the urgent necessity to use our influence as Americans to support the rights of all civilians to live in peace. Too often we take the side as activists of one or the other, instead of taking the side of a peace that respects both. NGOs such as Combatants for Peace, Bereaved Families Forum, and Jerusalem Peacemakers need us to push our government to support coexistence.
